Midweek Memory Work for April 7
(Note: The memory assignment is cumulative, meaning the 5th grade knows the 3-4 grade material as well as their own. Same with the 7-8 grade; they know all the memory from grade 3-8)
Grades 3-4: Colors of the Church Year
Black: (Ash Wednesday, Good Friday) Reminds us of our sorrow at our Savior’s suffering
Blue: (Advent) Reminds us of the blessed eternal hope that is ours in Christ
Green: (Epiphany and Trinity Sundays) Represents the Christian life and growth in faith
Red or Scarlet: (Pentecost) The color of fire, representing the coming of the Holy Spirit.
Used on certain saints’ days to represent the blood of martyrs.
Remembrance of Christ’s blood shed for us
White: (Christmas, Epiphany, Easter, Trinity) The color of purity, holiness, glory, and joy
Purple: (Lent, Advent) Reminds us of our need for repentance and preparation for Easter
Grades 5-6: Romans 12:1-2 I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
Grades 7-8: All of the above
